When installing anything on the computer as a novice or in some cases even as an expert it can be really intimidating to you to have to figure out what you have to do all on your own. This article is going to give you the basics and all the information that you will need to install your very own TV tuner card that you can use to stream television to your computer to watch or to record, therefore turning your computer in to a no monthly fee DVR.
There are two seperate types of tuners, PCI tuners for a PC, or a USB turner for a Laptop or Desktop PC.

At the link above you can view what a PCI slot looks like. This is inside of the CPU commonly refereed to as the computer’s tower, and you can generally open it up yourself by finding a button or slit or some type of openinglocation on the tower and use that to take off one of the tower “walls” at which point you will be looking at the inside of the computer.
If you take this route MAKE SURE YOUR PC IS OFF, from here take your PCI tuner card and line up the coppered side to the PCI slots, and match up the slot and the insert as close as you can, while both are fragile a little for will be needed to push them in, after you install this, close up the tower and restart the computer.
After you do this, you need to read the package from the manufacturer, in most case there WILL be software from them which will be on a CD that you will have to put into your towers drive and install. In most cases the manufacturer’s disc has an autorun or autostart feature with a menu that pops up on the screen and tells you exactly what to do. If not open your CD from the My Computer location and choose the install or setup icon to run the installer.
After that you are all set and as long as you installed your hard and software right you should have no problems running your new tuner card on your desktop PC.
If you did not buy this type of tuner, then you bought a USB turn, the best and easiest turn to install on a computer. First thigs is first with the COMPUTER ON plug in the turn to an available USB slot and the computer should detect it. The computer will attempt to install it, if it prompts you to continue to auto install you will do one of two things.
1. If your USB device came with a CD cancel the auto install and install the CD with the autorun function, if not function follow the instructions from the PCI sections.
2. If your USB decive did not come with a CD chose find appropriate software and connect to find a solution for your hardware.
In either case your USB device should then be ready to use as a tuner.
WARNING: If you buy a USB turn with antennas, note that they are magnetised and WILL RUIN YOUR PC’s SCREEN!
