When buying a digital camera, a higher resolution means a higher quality photo. Resolution is measured in pixels, the number of dots that there are in a fixed width. The more dots there are, the better the quality is.
A word of caution – higher resolutions take up more storage space. Because higher resolution needs more pixels, more pixels means that your memory card will fit less photos, and each photo will take up more room on your computer. More than 5 Mega pixels is more than sufficient – apparently the human eye cannot differentiate anything more than 3 Mega pixels on an A4 printout, which is pretty big.
That’s not to say don’t get a high Mega pixel camera – of course, you can always take photos at lower resolution. What it does say is that purchasing an expensive good quality camera may be a waste if you don’t use its features fully.
